New tyres

We do budget, mid-range and premium tyres, so there's an option to suit you.

Tell us your size and we'll talk you through them. It's located on the tyre's sidewall and looks something like 205/55 R16.

Read your tyre

Your tyre's size is moulded into its sidewall. Here's what each part means. Yours may read differently.

205 is the width

The tyre is 205mm wide, measured from one sidewall to the other.

55 is the profile

The height of the sidewall, as a percentage of the width. Here that's 55% of 205mm, or about 113mm. A lower number means a shallower sidewall.

R is the construction

R stands for radial, which describes how the tyre is built inside. Nearly every car tyre today is radial.

16 is the rim size

The tyre fits a wheel with a 16-inch rim.

91 is the load index

A code for how much weight each tyre can carry. 91 means 615kg per tyre.

V is the speed rating

A code for the fastest the tyre is built to run at. V means up to 149mph.

The legal limit is 1.6mm, but tyres lose grip in the wet long before that. Not sure about yours? Call in and we'll take a look.

When do your tyres need replaced?

8mm
About what a new car tyre starts with.
3mm
Many tyre makers say to think about new tyres around here.
1.6mm
The legal minimum for a car in the UK, across the central three-quarters of the tyre and all the way round.

Get them seen to if you notice

  • Tread that's close to the wear bars moulded into the grooves
  • Cuts, cracks or bulges in the sidewall
  • One edge wearing faster than the other, which can point to a wheel alignment problem
  • A tyre that keeps losing air, which could be a puncture
