What is wheel alignment?

Alignment, or tracking, is the angle your wheels sit at. A pothole or a kerb can knock it out. So can wear in the steering and suspension.

What being out of line looks like

  • Straight Both front wheels point straight ahead. This is what you want.
  • Pointing in The fronts of the wheels turn towards each other. The outside edges of the tyres wear first.
  • Pointing out The fronts of the wheels turn away from each other. The inside edges of the tyres wear first.

Even a small angle drags the tyres sideways as they roll, so they wear out early and the steering can feel vague or pull to one side.

Signs your alignment could be out

  • The car drifts or pulls to one side on a straight, level road
  • The steering wheel sits off-centre when you're driving straight
  • The inside or outside edge of a tyre is wearing faster than the rest

Left alone, it wears tyres out early. We do wheel alignment, so get it looked at, especially if you're fitting new tyres.
